Strange Light

Strangelight

Received my copy of Strangelight today. A magazine featuring photos of the Australian Dust Storm put together by Derek Powazek straight after the event on 23 September using photos from Flickr users and published using HP’s online publishing service Magcloud. Totally impressed by the time taken to put the magazine together and the on-demand print service that delivered a quality magazine to my door in such a short time.

Audubon's Birds of America

Audubon

The University of Pittsburgh has digitized and made available online it’s complete set of John James Audubon’s ‘Birds of America’. Made up of 435 paintings, most at life-size, original subscribers received five engraved plates at a time between 1827 and 1838. The site allows you to explore these fantastic works of art using Zoomify, a flash based plugin which adds to the experience. Information on the collection and the process to get it online can be found here.
